Sustainability in 3D Printing
Responsibility we actively embrace. For us, sustainability in 3D printing means more than just good intentions. At Rapidobject, we reduce our CO₂ emissions at the source—through concrete measures in production, energy use, and logistics. As a 3D printing service provider based in Germany, we take responsibility for ensuring sustainable industrial production.
Our Approach
Reduction instead of compensation
Many companies choose to purchase carbon offsets.
We have deliberately decided against this.
Our goal is to actually prevent emissions and reduce them in a sustainable way, rather than offsetting them after the fact. That is why we make targeted investments in measures that measurably reduce our corporate carbon footprint—from energy-efficient production to process optimization.

How We Implement Sustainability in 3D Printing
At Rapidobject, we are leveraging several effective strategies to actually reduce emissions:
Energy-optimized production processes
Reduced power consumption of our 3D printing systems and optimized utilizationResource-efficient 3D printing
Additive manufacturing enables material-efficient components with less wasteLocal production in Germany
Short transport routes, reduced logistics emissions, transparent supply chainsDurability instead of disposable products
Functional components, replacement parts, and on-demand production
Our mission
For climate protection and a better environment
We have made a conscious decision not to purchase carbon offsets—instead, we are actively reducing our CO₂ emissions!
Transparent CO₂ Accounting with Global Climate®
To track our CO₂ emissions in a transparent and measurable way, we have been working with Global Climate® since 2020.
The carbon footprint calculation is based on actual company data, including:
- Energy consumption of the systems
- Shipping and Logistics
- Business Travel and Business Processes
The goal is to identify realistic reduction potentials, make progress measurable, and continuously optimize measures—all of which are reviewed in annual audits.
ESG Rating: A Gold (2023)
Rapidobject received an A Gold rating in the Global Climate® ESG rating.
The industry-specific valuation model takes into account:
- Environment
- Social (Social Responsibility)
- Governance (Corporate Governance)
In total, up to 180 criteria are taken into account in the assessment. The methodology is based on international sustainability standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the UN Global Compact.
good to know
Simply by choosing 3D printing, you are already contributing to sustainability.
With 3D printing, you’re choosing a resource-efficient process that offers the following advantages:
Just-in-Time & On Demand
Components are manufactured only after an order is received; there is no inventory and no overproduction
Nearly waste-free manufacturing of products
except for support structures, misprints, and material degradation
Reuse of unused material
up to 80% of the raw material, depending on the process
Extending the product lifecycle
3D-printed replacement parts extend the lifespan of products
Local manufacturing, shorter shipping distances
contributes to the return of production to Germany
Lower energy consumption
as injection molding, since no additional tools need to be manufactured
