For the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig, Rapidobject created a highly detailed tactile model that allows blind and visually impaired people to experience the monument in three dimensions for the first time.
The project demonstrates how additive manufacturing can be used to create accessible, tactile representations of complex structures.
Initial situation
The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is one of the largest monuments in Europe.
Due to its size and complex architecture, it has been virtually impossible for blind and visually impaired visitors to grasp its structure and proportions.
The goal was therefore to develop a robust, detailed tactile model that:
- clearly illustrates the entire structure
- also offers a glimpse inside
- is permanently accessible to the public
Challenge
A conventional model would have either:
- have to be oversimplified, or
- cannot reproduce the high level of detail
In addition, the project required:
- contactless data collection
- exceptional accuracy
- High durability for long-term use
Our Solution
Rapidobject created based on:
- Drawings
- Photo data
- 3D scans (including drone imagery)
a complete digital 3D model of the monument.
This model has been optimized for 3D printing with plastic and produced on a 1:100 scale.
A deliberately cut-out section also allows you to explore the interior—including figures, levels, and the dome.

The result
The tactile model is now permanently on display in the monument’s entrance area, significantly enhancing cultural access for blind and visually impaired visitors.
In addition, the model is used during guided tours to vividly illustrate the monument’s structure and history.
